ScotlandArt.com has long sought to champion the most distinctive and talented Scottish artists and to make original artworks accessible to all those with an interest in art. It is with these goals in mind that we have developed our latest exhibition programme: Artist's Spotlight.
We are very excited to announce that Joan Somerville will be our first artist to be featured in our Artist's Spotlight with her show, 'There and Back Again', launching this Saturday. A Glasgow native, Joan has exhibited around the world and prints of her work are incredibly popular. The show is an incredible return to form following an eight-year hiatus and will be the first time her original paintings have been available in almost a decade. Her work is distinctive and whimsical, affectionately featuring larger-than-life Glaswegian characters in well-known social settings, from a dinner party to the Taxi queue or nightclub, and she isn't afraid of poking fun at the often too serious art establishment.
The exhibition will launch on Saturday 6th June from 11AM to 8PM, with cocktails served from 3:30PM and an artist's Q&A commencing at 4PM. The exhibition will run until Friday 3rd July.
Joan herself embodies all of the warmth and whimsy of her compositions and is looking forward to giving us a further insight to her painting through an informal Q&A during the launch.
In advance of the launch of her come-back exhibition we had the pleasure of carrying out an interview with Joan, which is available to read on our blog.
We invite you to have a read to hear from the artist herself on such diverse topics as her recent clubbing exploits, why her paintings are like ‘pub grub’, and why she is taking more pleasure from them than ever before.
